What She Hears

We talk about caterpillars and how they turn into butterflies.  She soaks up the drama like a dedicated understudy.

I ask her, how long does the caterpillar stay in his little house?

"TWO WEEKS!"

She has no concept of the string of days these words describe, but she loves to have an answer.

And what is his little house called?

"A RACOON!"

Oh.  Remember a racoon has dark eyes and a fluffy tail and sharp claws?  A racoon is an animal.  The caterpillar lives in a cocoon.

"No, mommy.  Doesn't.  The caterpillar lives in his racoon."

Right.

We ride the escalator.

"Weeeee!  Alligator is really fun!"

I don't even bother.  Yes it is.

I say, I love you.

She says,

"I LOVE YOU JUICE!"

2 is for counting and juice (which she's never had) is sweet.

You know what, Soleil?  I also LOVE YOU JUICE!

  2. I love it when kids are just learning their words and get them just a little bit wrong. At Christmas my 2-year-old granddaughter told me that the baby in the nativity scene was "Baby Cheese." I think he'll be "Baby Cheese" in my mind for the rest of my life.
