I spent a decade of my life working with children with disabilities and their families. We didn't just work. We played, we struggled, we worked hard to communicate, we laughed, we told stories, we cried, we made enormous messes, we cleaned up, we made loud noises and we did not apologize. We loved. A lot.
I was young when I began this work. This background feels like a living part of me, still informing my perception of our world.
This background probably doesn't help me understand this mother's journey. Not the way she does. But, it makes me appreciate it, so very, very much.

That was brutal. In a good way. (If there is such a thing.)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for deeming "What I Would Tell You" worthy of space on your beautiful blog. I do not read many blogs as I haven't found many that really grab me but I have added yours to my toolbar as a favourite. Your piece on bathing with your daughter, brought much laughter to me this morning. Your writing is excellent and so enjoyable. Thank you for sharing my website and essay.
